Personal Safety

  1. Show that you know the dangers of playing on or near two of the following and explain why you should never do so:- railways, busy roads, building sites, canal banks, sand/gravel pits, farm yards, river banks, quarries.

  2. Take part in a fire drill and know what precautions to take to protect your home, Scout Headquarters, Pack Camp or Pack Holiday, against the risk of fire.

  3. Show you can use at least one of the following codes:- Green Cross Code, Water Safety Code, Bathing Code, Firework Code etc., and make up a safety code of your own choice:- e.g. car passenger, train passenger, playground.

  4. Know how to use a public telephone and how to make an emergency phone call.

  5. Tell the examiner what you must do if a stranger starts to talk to you and what you must tell your parents/guardians about, if you are going out without them.

  6. Know some of the hazards you may find when you are in at least one of the following:- seaside, large town, countryside, mountainous area, lakeland or moorland.
